There are thirty species of fish native to fresh water in Florida
Everglades National Park. Fish are very important to the
Everglades environment. They are the main source of food for
larger fish, wading birds, and even alligators. Native fish
also do a great job of
controlling the insect population. During the summer (wet)
season, the water level in the Everglades is high and fish
are scattered across the shallows. In the winter, when it is
dry, the fish move into deeper canals and "gator holes,"
where standing water is still available. When this happens
you can catch many Bass (30-50) ranging in size from 2-4 lbs
with the occasional 8-10 Bass.
Fishing with artificial lures is the best way to Bass Fish the Florida
Everglades. The choice of lures here are fairly wide, but
Plastic worms are the most consistent. Top Water action can
be a blast if you have some cloud cover or ripple on the
water. Crank bait can also be exciting when the water is
down off the flats and in the canals.
